31 Jan 1850 - Evan Howell to Nathanial L. Hutchins (J-1)

Evan D. Howell (1781 - 1868) was a Warsaw merchant and had five wives. Evan's son, Clark Howell, is a legend in the building of Atlanta. Evan's grandson bought the "Atlanta Constitution" in 1887 and became its editor.


Nathanial L. Hutchins, an attorney-at-law, practiced in Gwinnett County, Georgia. He was a valuing agent of Indian property for the federal government. Nathanial Hutchins, was the son of Michael Hutchins, a revolutionary soldier who died August 1839, at the age of 82, and Mary Hutchins, who died October 1839, both of whom are buried in the Cumming cemetery.


18 Aug 1853 - Inferior Court to Joel Estes (L-048).

Joel was born in Morgan County, Georgia. In 1834 he had four people in his household. In the 1850 census, his wife was listed as Mary Estes, and they had 11 children by 1860. The children were: Cicero, Lucinda, Nancy, Jasper, Newton, Marion,Harry, Elsey, and Adaliza.
Joel served as Clerk of the Inferior Court, 1854 - 1862.

Talbot and Oliver Strickland were brothers who married sisters, Celia and Irene Young, their first cousins. Nancy Harrell was their sister. James A Bogle married Eliza Ann Harrell, the daughter of Edward Harrell and his wife, Nancy Strickland Harrell.
Talbot and Oliver dispossessed Sawnee of his property.
Sawnee (also spelled Sauney) was an Indian whose home place was a little north of where the "old Kelly Mill" stands. He helped build some of the first houses in Cumming and Sawnee Mountain hears his name.


There was a two-story dwelling house with a store house where Lewis Chamblee resided and did business in the year 1849.
23 Sep 1867 - E. C. McAfee to Joseph M. McAfee, of Cherokee County, Georgia. In 1867, Theodore Irish was living there.
